Passing your Basic Theory Test in Singapore

At the point of writing this (December 2014), I’ve just cleared my Final Theory Test recently and I am schedule to get my Class 3 license (Manual) in the coming year (January 2015).

The process is fairly simple, and I spent a lot of time researching to discover:
1. What driving license should I take?
2. The most economically (not cheapest but
value for your money) way to get my Singapore driving license
What you need to avoid by doing this
4. Changing
of various private instructors (not all were good) until I settled for one great one.

And oh boy,
if you don’t just want to throw money (more expensive) with the driving school, I recommend you try the path I have taken. When taking your Singapore driving license, you can hire a private driving instructor for your practical tests at the same time while studying for your basic theory test and final theory test. Check out the Traffic Police Singapore website for other details.

For this website, I look forward to sharing my experience with you and I hope your journey will be
much easier as compared to what I experienced. We make an effort to provide the best match for you in attempting to find your private driving instructor and elearning support for your Basic Theory Test (BTT) and Final Theory Test (FTT).

Passing your Basic Theory Test is your step one in obtaining your driving license in Singapore. In Singapore, you can take your driving lessons in any of the driving centres here: Bukit Batok driving centre, Comfort driving centre (ubi driving centre) and Woodlands driving centrebasic theory test

we are talking about motor cars Class 3 / 3A / 3C / 3CA.
Note: Class 3C / Class 3CA are new licenses issued by the Traffic Police effective 1st June 2015.
For making things simpler, despite any kind of Class 3 you will have to clear your Basic Theory Test and Final Theory Test thought your Practical Driving Test differs with regards to the requirements of the type of Class 3 license you are taking.
Whether you are going for Manual or Auto (Class 3 / 3A / 3C / 3CA licenses), the Basic Theory Test (Exam) takes place in several driving schools.
It’s possible to register as a school student for your basic theory test at CDC even if you decide to work with private driving instructors later. In fact we recommend you to enroll with the school when you are preparing for your Basic Theory Test.
Being a student, you are able to take more mock (simulated) basic theory test tests 2-3 hours prior to the actual exam. It’s going to greatly assist you in clearing your Basic Theory Test.

The Final Theory Test is really a lot trickier than the Basic Theory Test in the sense that you’ll be expected to understand how a manual car work (clutch, brakes and accelerator) together with the different gears.
Even if you’re opting for the auto car license (Class 3A), you have to clear the same Final Theory Test taken by Class 3 students (Manual and Auto).
We actually feel it’s better for you to attend at least 1 to 2 practical lessons with a manual or auto car FIRST before taking the FTT. This will give you a better appreciation of the use of the clutch-brake-accelerator combination together with the gear. Quite a lot of questions in the FTT covers this.
Look closely at how the FTT focuses on drink driving. Applies plenty of commonsense and you can clear a lot of such questions. Essentially never drink and drive!
Areas covered in the Final Theory Test:
Introduction – safe driving
Operation of vehicle controls. This covers
the different fuctions on clutch, brake, accelerator and gears for example.
Basic Driving Techniques covering different safety aspects of driving.
Techniques in driving in traffic. Driving uphill and downhill
and other details on navigating the traffic.
